Selection process

Some schools have books nominated; some have groups choose the book.  

CSU makes it the committee open to anyone interested and a long list of people were involved.

For this year, each subcommittee willl choose 3 books.  We'll review the options on our own.  When we meet we will narrow the list down to three books (from the ~18) and submit those as choices to the larger group at the Nov meeting.  The full IL group will choose the book.  

In the future we may use a web submission form, but for the first year we'd like to provide guidance on what sort of books we'd like to use.

Factors to consider:

Price and availability (print, audio, e-form) 

Length (relatively short) but more important that it be aaccessible yet scholarly 

All formats considered: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, plays

Potential for author to visit 

Broadly interesting without being generic

Fit with EMU Mission
