Quickmail Removed from Moodle
IT has recently discovered that some messages being sent by Quickmail in Moodle are not being delivered to recipients. These failed deliveries are not producing any error messages, so this has been taking place with no warning to the sender. The authors of Quickmail have made no visible moves to remedy this issue, so we are removing Quickmail from our Moodle immediately. We don’t like making changes mid-semester, but we believe this situation requires action.
There are several other options for delivering a message to your class:
- You can send messages from the “Participants” list in a Moodle course by selecting the recipients, then choosing “Send a Message” from the box at the bottom of the list.
- myEmu has a mailing utility in your course class list (Academics>Faculty>Faculty Course Control>Class list).
- The Announcements Forum added by default to your Moodle course will send a notification to all participants in your course.
- We have added a utility called CLAMPmail to replace Quickmail in Moodle. While we still have little experience with CLAMPmail, it is reported to be more reliable than Quickmail and has similar functionality.
If you have further questions or are in need of assistance, please reach out to the Helpdesk (emu.edu/helpdesk).
Part of Moodle submission and grading is down.
IT is working to have it up as soon as possible. Sorry for the trouble.
UPDATE: IT is working to remediate Moodle problems created by a security update. On 9/30 we were able to restore the ability to submit and grade assignments. However this required significant sacrifices in the formatting and appearance of Moodle. We are continuing to work to restore our Moodle fully.
10/8 UPDATE:
- The Moodle "Space" theme has been restored.
- Access to browse your Google Drive files using Moodle's Google Drive plugin has been discontinued by Moodle in response to Google's continuing efforts to protect user data.
- Please contact helpdesk@emu.edu with any questions.
Quickmail is not currently working reliably within Moodle
Please be aware that Quickmail is not currently working reliably within Moodle. Messages sent through Quickmail may fail to be delivered without a warning or error message. IT is currently working to resolve this issue.
UPDATE: It appears that the issue is when you select "all in course" and send a message that way. If you send a message just to students, it should go through.
UPDATE: IT is currently evaluating a replacement for Quickmail.
