A researcher selects a random sample of all inmates in Pennsylvania and calculates the 95% confidence interval for the average prison term length to be 54 months +/- 8 months. If she now uses the same sample and result to calculate the 99% confidence interval for prison term length, the margin of error will increase.

Using the equations (presented in the slide lectures) and/or logic, explain why the 99% confidence interval is wider/larger than the 95% confidence interval.
