Creating clickable video contents and quizzes in your video

<Previous|Main|Next>

Moodle allows you to create a contents page for your video. You can use this feature to mark new topics within a longer video allowing students who wish to review that topic to click directly to that sections. Another great feature is the ability to create in-video quizzes to test student knowledge.

Creating table of contents links [edit]

Open your video in the Panopto editor. You can get there through the Panopto recording tool as described in the last lesson. You can also go directly to www.emu.hosted.panopto.com. If you are not logged in, you will need to click the sign in button. This will take you to a Moodle sign in page. Once you log in you will be looking at an overview of all your recorded videos. These will be organized by folder by class. The class folders will be listed on the left hand columns and preview thumbnails of the videos in a particular folder in the main part of the page.

Select the folder for the class your video was originally recorded in (note this could be different from the folder for the class you are working in if you used the import feature in Moodle to add the video to a new class. Importing is covered in another FAQ topic.)

Find the video you want to edit in the list of videos and hover your mouse pointer over the video. Menu options will appear one of which is "Edit" Click on Edit to open the Panopto Editor.

Once you are in editing mode: [edit]

You may find it useful to zoom into the audio track. this will allow you to see breaks in the audio easier and will make your contents links more seamless. To do this move the zoom slider all the way to the right.

Find the location on the time line for your first contents link. Take note of the time code for a break or pause in the audio. Move the red line indicator to that time code.

When you are satisfied of the location. Ensure Contents is selected in the menu items in the left column. Type your first contents title in the box labled "Enter a table of contents entry." Hit enter when you are done.

Repeat this process for each contents location. Move the Red Line Slider, Type contents name, hit enter

Adding a quiz into a video. [edit]

Quizzes can be used in videos to review material covered in part of the video. The quiz can be located anywhere in the videos timeline.

To add a quiz:

Find the location on the time line for your quiz. Take note of the time code for a break or pause in the audio. Move the red line indicator to that time code.

Select "Quizzes" from the menu in the left column then select "Add a Quiz"
