Module 14 Assignment
Establish a hypothetical question, null and alternative hypothesis, and the type of test you would use to test the questions.
We have gone through many hypothetical examples throughout the course of the semester. Now I would like you to come up with one of your own. You do not need to collect/produce data or specific calculations, but I want you to think about a question and hypothesis that you could answer with one of the statistical tests we reviewed this semester (for example, “I am interested in comparing drinking habits at Mountain State (average drinks per week) to drinking habits at Prairie State”).
Each question below requires a response of a sentence or two.
A. Establish your question, along with your null and alternative hypothesis (conceptually):
B. How would you collect/acquire the data? A survey? What question or questions will you ask?
C. What is/are the variable(s)? Are they Categorical? Dichotomous? Continuous/Quantitative?
D. Identify some potential lurking variables (if any) that may complicate the relationship you are examining.
E. What is your null and alternative hypothesis? Use mathematical phrasing if possible (e.g. the mean of group one will be greater than the mean of group two). If not, you can restate the null and alt from Part A.
F. What statistical test would you perform to test your hypothesis and how will you determine whether or not your result is statistically significant?
